AutoCAD Civil 3D: Fundamentals, Capabilities, and Applications in Hydrology/Hydraulics and Geotechnical

AutoCAD Civil 3D, an AutoCAD software product developed specifically for civil applications, is the flagship design tool used by engineering firms and other contractors. Join instructor, Chuck Pietra, for one, two or three classes to learn more about the capabilities of AutoCAD Civil 3D and its application in the fields of hydrology and geotechnical. These classes are not theoretical. They are practical demonstrations of the power of AutoCAD Civil 3D to gather data and develop design alternatives based on analysis and simulation.

For all classes, familiarity with AutoCAD is recommended. The classes are suited for civil engineers, civil engineering students, civil CAD professionals and environmental professionals.

This 1-day class focuses on the workflows involved with gathering, organizing, displaying and analyzing geotechnical data based on several investigation/remediation/design projects. Using AutoCAD Civil 3D, students will import geotechnical data, create and visualize 3D boreholes and geology strata surfaces, create dynamic geotechnical profile views that display borehole log strips, and display, style and manage boreholes, strata surfaces and geotechnical profiles.

AutoCAD Civil 3D Fundamentals 2-day Class: December 17 and 18 | Charlottesville

This 2-day class offers students the opportunity to use AutoCAD Civil 3D on a land development project, starting with basic surveying and including all other major components such as surfaces, parcels and sites, roadway design, grading, utilities, and plotted sheets.

Hydrology and Hydraulics 1-day Class Using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Sanitary Storm Analysis and River Analysis: December 19 | Charlottesville

This 1-day class provides opportunities to perform hydrology and hydraulics design, analysis and simulation on several real world projects. Using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Sanitary Storm Analysis, students will explore storm, open channel and HecRAS design situations.

Geotechnical Fundamentals 1-day Class Using AutoCAD Civil 3D and the GeoTech Module: December 20 | Charlottesville

This 1-day class focuses on the workflows involved with gathering, organizing, displaying and analyzing geotechnical data based on several investigation/remediation/design projects. Using AutoCAD Civil 3D, students will import geotechnical data, create and visualize 3D boreholes and geology strata surfaces, create dynamic geotechnical profile views that display borehole log strips, and display, style and manage boreholes, strata surfaces and geotechnical profiles.

Instructor

Charles A. Pietra is Senior Technical Applications Manager for O’Brien & Gere Engineers where he leads all company technical training in the areas of CAD GIS environmental data management and construction management in the firm’s core business lines of water solutions, environmental and industrial and municipal civil & capital facilities. He is certified as an Autodesk Civil 3D Implementation Expert (ICE). Prior to his current position, he held several jobs in GIS and CAD implementation and training with other employers including his own company based in Syracuse NY for 17 years.

Pietra holds a BA degree in Physics and a n MSc in Physics Education both from S.U.N.Y Oswego.
