Join instructor, Chuck Pietra, for one, two, or three classes on Autodesk Civil 3D and its application to site design, hydrology and corridor modeling. These classes are not theoretical. They are practical demonstrations of the power of Autodesk Civil 3D to gather data and develop design alternatives based on analysis and simulation.

For all classes, familiarity with AutoCAD is required. The classes are suited for civil engineers, civil engineering students, civil CAD professionals and environmental professionals.

Autodesk Civil 3D Fundamentals 2-day Class: July 14-15

This 2-day class provides an introduction to the software and can be a refresher for those already familiar with its capabilities. Based on real-world examples, students have the opportunity to use Autodesk Civil 3D on a land development project, starting with basic surveying and including all other major components such as surfaces, parcels and sites, roadway design, grading, utilities, and plotted sheets. Topics include:

Hydrology and Hydraulics 1-day Class Using Autodesk Civil 3D: July 16

This 1-day advanced class provides opportunities to perform hydrology and hydraulics design, analysis and simulation related to real-world projects. Using Autodesk Civil 3D and Toolset features such as pipe networks, hydrology tools, network analysis, and sanitary storm analysis, students develop hands-on drainage and pipe network analysis skills. Topics include:

  • Surface creation, refinement, and analysis
  • Gravity pipe networks
  • Hydroflow Hydrograph tools
  • Sanitary storm analysis
  • Gravity network analysis tool
  • River analysis

Corridor Modeling 1-day Class Using AutoCAD Civil 3D: July 17

This 1-day advanced class allows students to apply their fundamental Autodesk Civil 3D skills to simple roadway design, including roundabouts, intersections, and rehab corridors. Functionality with Autodesk Infraworks, a companion software program that helps users conceptualize, optimize, and visualize infrastructure projects in the pre-design stage, will be discussed. Topics include:

  • Alignments
  • Profiles and sections with crossings and projections
  • Sub assemblies and assemblies
  • Corridor model
  • Intersections and Roundabouts
  • Corridor regions and baselines
  • Rehab corridors

Charles A. Pietra is the Civil Infrastructure CAD Manager at C&S Companies based in Syracuse, NY where he leads all company technical training and support in the areas of CAD GIS in the firm’s core business lines of aviation, water solutions, environmental, and industrial and municipal civil and capital facilities. He is certified as an Autodesk Civil 3D Implementation Expert (ICE). Prior to his current position, he held positions in GIS and CAD implementation and training with other employers including his own company based in Syracuse, NY.

Pietra holds a BA degree in Physics and an MSc in Physics Education, both from S.U.N.Y Oswego.
