Ahmad Alhasan

Dr. Alhasan is staff civil engineer at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) working in the Research & Technology Deployment Group after 4 years at the Institute for Transportation (InTrans) at Iowa State University. Dr. Alhasan specializes in pavement performance evaluation and management, statistical analysis, risk management, and data driven analysis and multiattribute decision making under uncertainty. He has been involved in the performance assessment of high friction surface treatments implemented in the state of Iowa as a part of a research project for Iowa DOT titled “High Friction Surface Treatment for High Crash Locations, Phase II: Performance Assessment”. In addition, he led early efforts to develop a pavement friction management program for the Iowa DOT during his work at Iowa State University.


Dan D’Angelo has enjoyed a long career in transportation infrastructure beginning with the New York State Department of Transportation serving in several senior roles including Director of Design, Director of Design Quality Assurance, Deputy Chief Engineer, and lead innovation coordinator.  After his NYSDOT career, Dan joined Applied Research Associates Transportation Infrastructure Division as a Principal Engineer, focusing on risk management, project management, and alternative contracting methods. He has served as project manager on several FHWA projects, including the Bridge Preservation Guide, Bridge Bundling Guidebook, ACM Tools, EDC5 support for project bundling and value capture. He is an NHI instructor for risk management.
