Online - Course
This hybrid online class will combine both live instruction and independent online work that you will complete during the day. Independent work will include quizzes, readings, videos and short assignments. Access to a computer with a webcam (either a camera that is built into your laptop or one that connects via USB), a reliable internet connection and a workspace that is free from distraction and noise will set you up for success.
Please note: It is highly recommended that you utilize 2 computer display monitors during class in order to most efficiently navigate between the Auto DESK software and other class materials.
This 2-day class provides an introduction to the software and can be a refresher for those already familiar with its capabilities. Based on real-world examples, students have the opportunity to use Autodesk Civil 3D on a land development project, starting with basic surveying and including all other major components such as surfaces, parcels and sites, roadway design, grading, utilities, and plotted sheets.
You will need your own PC laptop with a minimum of 8 Gb RAM. Contact the instructor at firstname.lastname@example.org for guidance on loading the software on your computer prior to class. Trial versions or free education versions are available at https://www.autodesk.com/products/civil-3d/overview.

Charles “Chuck” A. Pietra
Chuck Pietra is the Civil Infrastructure CAD Manager at C & S Companies in Syracuse NY where he manages all company technical software applications in the areas of CAD GIS Site Civil Environmental data management and Construction Management.
Chuck has been involved with the Autodesk reseller channel for over 30 years, and has authored several books and articles on CAD GIS and related topics. He is certified as an Autodesk Civil 3D Implementation Expert. Prior to his current position at OBG he owned his own Consulting firm which specialized in CAD and GIS implementation and training. Chuck frequently trains and guest speaks around the country.
Chuck holds a BA degree in Physics and a Master of Science in Physics, both from S.U.N.Y Oswego.
Who Should Attend
The class is for Civil Engineers and Designers, Civil CAD Professionals, Environmental Professionals. The student will need to bring their own PC laptop with a minimum of 8 Gb RAM.

Special Registration Instructions for Employees of the Virginia Department of Transportation
VDOT employees must register through the VDOT Virtual Campus. Registration fees and related expenses for all VDOT employees will be paid from the VDOT Learning Services Center budget. Registrants should contact their District Training Coordinator or the VDOT Learning Services Center (Central Office employees) for instructions on how to seek reimbursement for travel expenses.
Due to current travel restrictions, VDOT employees are strongly encouraged to attend U. Va. TTA workshops on a day trip basis. Overnight travel requires permission from your District Administrator or Chief -- and in some cases higher levels of authority. If you require overnight lodging to attend a U. Va. TTA workshop, consult with your supervisor, District Training Coordinator, or VDOT Learning Services Center on travel approval procedures.
