The training will focus on the requirements under 29 CFR 1910.146 and will include the following:

Classroom session for Confined Space Entry (approximately 4-6 hours) will include:

-Clear and detailed explanation of OSHA’s confined space standard
-Rescue Basics
-Confined Space Rescue Plan
-Hazards of Confined Spaces
-Roles of CS entry team
-Safety Procedures
-Rescuers and Stress
-Rope Systems (Limited training on rope systems)
-Alternate entry procedures, reclassification and full entry requirements
-Atmospheric monitoring requirements
-Use of a written Confined Space Entry Permit
-Coordinate with other Emergency Responders
-Review of the 3 rescue techniques: Non-entry, Entry by others, Entry by     trained employees from company
-Review the PPE – Personal Protective Equipment that may be required for Confined Space Entry
-Lockout Tagout or elimination and removal of potential hazards

The hands-on phase of the training will include trainees conducting pre-plans, use of Confined Space Permits, practice rescues, inspection and maintenance of equipment including tripod, harnesses, 4-gas meter, etc. Class duration may exceed 4 hours based on the number of participates to complete the hands-on portion of the day.

**If you have a harness, please bring it with you to the training. We will have a few at the workshop.

9:15 AM – 10:00 AM: General Hazard Analysis and Work Zone Set-Up

10:00 AM – 10:15 AM:  Break Time

10:15 AM – 11:00 AM: Entry/Exit Equipment / Fall Arrest Harnesses and Retrieval Equipment Set-up

11:00 AM – 11:30 AM: Gas Detection / Internal Space Hazard Analysis – Incidental/Other Hazards

11:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Ventilation

12:00 PM – 12:45 PM: Lunch Break (Lunch Provided)

12:45 PM – 1:15 PM:  Personal Protective Equipment

1:15 PM – 1:45 PM:  General and Pre-Entry Crew Briefings

1:45 PM – 2:15 PM: Entry Team Member Duties

2:15 PM – 2:30 PM: Break Time

2:30 PM – 3:40 PM:  Hands-On and Virtual Exercises using tri-pod, wench, gas meters and fall arrest harnesses

3:40 PM – 4:00 PM: Final Review & Test


Jeb Weymouth

Jeb Weymouth is a Safety Trainer for the Glen Allen, Virginia office.  Mr. Weymouth has field experience working in the area of industrial hygiene and safety.

Mr. Weymouth completed his Bachelors in Environmental Science at Randolph-Macon College. Prior to joining The EI Group, Inc., he worked for 2 years at Froehling & Robertson, Inc. gaining experience in environmental and industrial hygiene work, client training, and understanding of OSHA regulations.

Mr. Weymouth has been training adults in the Asbestos, Lead, and Safety curriculums for more than 7 years.  Mr. Weymouth is a Virginia approved instructor for Asbestos and Lead curriculums, he is an OSHA authorized instructor for the Construction Industry as well as an approved instructor for the federal EPA Lead RRP Regulation.  Mr. Weymouth’s training expertise is tied closely with Construction industry topics such as Fall Protection, Aerial Lift, Confined Spaces, Equipment Operation, and Excavation.  In addition to performing awareness training for various clients, Mr. Weymouth has also provided Competent Person and Train the Trainer Courses in Powered Industrial Truck, Aerial Lifts, Fall Protection and Excavation.

Who Should Attend

Designed specifically for municipal water, waste water, distribution/collection and/or storm water utility workers. Public works, parks, streets/roads, building maintenance or any other city employees who encounter confined spaces at their workplaces can benefit too!

Also recommended for division supervisors, agency safety officers, department safety coordinators and general safety trainers.
