This one-day course covers an overview of the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Act and its application especially for Local Public Agency Federal-Aid Projects. The primary training goal for this course is to provide a better understanding of the various requirements and pitfalls Local Public Agencies may experience during ROW acquisition and the potential of the loss of federal-aid when these requirements are not met. As part of the course subjects that. will be covered include on the Uniform Act, Administration, Valuation, Acquisition and Negotiation, Relocation Assistance, and Property Management.
Who Should Attend: Local Planning Agency staff and other public and private staff involved with Federal-aid local projects involving ROW acquisition.

Mr. Dane Ismart of Louis Berger & Associates, retired from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) after 25 years of service in a variety of policy, planning and engineering positions. He was responsible for implementing the Intermodal Management Systems regulations. Mr. Ismart has authored manuals and taught NHI courses on Capacity Analysis, Access Management, Financial Management, Travel Demand Forecasting and Intermodal Planning, and is a member of the TRB Highway Capacity Subcommittee on Unsignalized Intersections. Mr. Ismart is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree and received his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Special Registration Instructions for Employees of the Virginia Department of Transportation
VDOT employees must register through the VDOT Virtual Campus. Registration fees and related expenses for all VDOT employees will be paid from the VDOT Learning Services Center budget. Registrants should contact their District Training Coordinator or the VDOT Learning Services Center (Central Office employees) for instructions on how to seek reimbursement for travel expenses.
Due to current travel restrictions, VDOT employees are strongly encouraged to attend U. Va. TTA workshops on a day trip basis. Overnight travel requires permission from your District Administrator or Chief -- and in some cases higher levels of authority. If you require overnight lodging to attend a U. Va. TTA workshop, consult with your supervisor, District Training Coordinator, or VDOT Learning Services Center on travel approval procedures.
