Federal Land Management Agency (FLMA) road and trail managers oversee thousands of miles of unpaved and native-surfaced roads and trails in the United States that are subject to damage from motorized vehicle use, primarily during wet weather conditions.
The United States Forest Service (USFS) will share three technologies for maintaining and monitoring their unpaved roadway network during the next Innovation Exchange webinar. These technologies will include:
- Temporary Road Mats – a temporary application to address drainage and stabilization issues on a seasonal basis;
- Wicking Fabrics – a permanent installation to address drainage issues on unpaved roads, especially those affected by freeze-thaw conditions; and
- Remote Sensing for Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) – a dynamic monitoring tool to enable FLMA managers to make closure decisions in response to deteriorating ground conditions.
