Description
Have you ever discovered something too good to be true? That’s how we feel about VDOT’s Crash Analysis Tool. It is an in-house application developed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to analyze crash data. It provides “anyone” a way to summarize, visualize, and identify patterns in traffic crashes, helping to pinpoint problem areas, determine causal factors, and inform safety management and project development decisions. The Tool can support both traditional “hot spot” analysis and systemic analysis. Join us for an hour as Shan Di and Tina Simmons explains how easy one can navigate the Crash Analysis Tool and in short time have the data needed to make your roads safer.

Instructor
Shan Di, P.E., Ph.D
Shan Di, P.E., Ph.D., is the Safety Data Analysis Program Manager in VDOT’s Traffic Operations Division, where she leads efforts to help advance roadway safety through data-driven strategies. She has 15 years of professional experience in both the public and private sectors and, and has worked across multiple program areas in planning, asset management, and highway safety at VDOT. In her current role, she focuses on managing data and developing tools to support highway safety improvement decision-making at both the state and local levels.

Special Registration Instructions for Employees of the Virginia Department of Transportation
VDOT employees must register through the VDOT Virtual Campus. Registration fees and related expenses for all VDOT employees will be paid from the VDOT Learning Services Center budget. Registrants should contact their District Training Coordinator or the VDOT Learning Services Center (Central Office employees) for instructions on how to seek reimbursement for travel expenses.
Due to current travel restrictions, VDOT employees are strongly encouraged to attend U. Va. TTA workshops on a day trip basis. Overnight travel requires permission from your District Administrator or Chief -- and in some cases higher levels of authority. If you require overnight lodging to attend a U. Va. TTA workshop, consult with your supervisor, District Training Coordinator, or VDOT Learning Services Center on travel approval procedures.
