This hybrid online class will combine both live instruction and independent online work that you will complete during the day. Independent work will include quizzes, readings, videos and short assignments. Access to a computer with a webcam (either a camera that is built into your laptop or one that connects via USB), a reliable internet connection and a workspace that is free from distraction and noise will set you up for success.
Description
Formally Storm Water Fundamentals and Inspection, this class will provide students with an understanding about the requirements for erosion and sediment control for construction. Students will learn about the various types of erosion and how to select and install Best Management Practices (BMPs) to prevent erosion and control sediment on job-sites. The course will also address routine inspection checklists, and proper maintenance necessary to ensure your BMPs remain effective. The course concludes with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Development. Where we will address key elements of a SWPPP, roles and responsibilities, and Erosion and Sediment Control Plan Development.

Instructor
Aimee Connerton
Aimee Connerton, Technical Resources Professional, currently works for Rinker Materials in the Mid-Atlantic Region. She is head of the Education Committee for the American Concrete Pipe Association and Education Committee Chair for The Precast Concrete Association of Virginia. Aimee also serves as President of the Central Atlantic Precast Concrete Association in Maryland. Aimee holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Maryland, where she majored in Chemistry and minored in Economics. Aimee currently teaches Virginia Inspectors through the Virginia Community College Workforce Alliance, provides training through the Local Technical Assistance Program, and provides virtual training through the American Concrete Pipe Association.

Anyone who operates machinery for excavation; plans and sets up temporary work zone for excavating purposes, utility workers, public works personnel.

Special Registration Instructions for Employees of the Virginia Department of Transportation
VDOT employees must register through the VDOT Virtual Campus. Registration fees and related expenses for all VDOT employees will be paid from the VDOT Learning Services Center budget. Registrants should contact their District Training Coordinator or the VDOT Learning Services Center (Central Office employees) for instructions on how to seek reimbursement for travel expenses.
Due to current travel restrictions, VDOT employees are strongly encouraged to attend U. Va. TTA workshops on a day trip basis. Overnight travel requires permission from your District Administrator or Chief -- and in some cases higher levels of authority. If you require overnight lodging to attend a U. Va. TTA workshop, consult with your supervisor, District Training Coordinator, or VDOT Learning Services Center on travel approval procedures.
