Transportation departments large and small face the same workforce challenge – there are not enough people in the transportation construction industry to fill the high demand for workers. To address this challenge, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has launched initiatives to support building tomorrow’s highway construction workforce.

The Innovation Exchange Webinar will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. ET, and will teach participants about the FHWA Strategic Workforce Development program and its goal to increase the capacity and capability of the highway construction workforce through partnerships with the transportation industry; non-profit and private industry; academia; and federal, state, tribal, and local governments.

Additionally, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will share initiatives taken to develop the tribal transportation workforce through its partnership with the Tribal Labor Advisory Committee, including the Highway Construction Skills Training Program that seeks to create opportunities for groups historically underrepresented in the construction industry.
